Studying Law @ LSBU
There has never been a better time to study law at LSBU. For over 30 years we've been providing excellent and innovative law courses.
WHY CHOOSE LSBU FOR LAW?
Many of our staff continue to practise Law and are therefore able to give examples of their work to explain legal points covered in their lectures. This brings the lectures 'to life' and makes learning the law even more interesting for our students as they understand how the law they learn with us is applied in practice.
For example, Caron Thatcher, a Senior Lecturer in Law at LSBU worked alongside Imran Khan as a Solicitor for the family of Stephen Lawrence throughout their greatly publicised private prosecution, inquest, and Public Inquiry.
Taking advantage of our central location and excellent, modern facilities, our department has developed a thriving relationship with the legal profession.
We appoint leading lawyers as visiting professors and lecturers, host continuing professional development training seminars f or local solicitors and encourage our many successful alumni to give careers advice and offer work placements to our current students.
You'll find we're just a short walk from the Royal Courts of Justice as well as being right in the heart of London's cultural centre, the South Bank.
Many of our students have gone on to great success in the law, while others have taken their legal knowledge and professional skills into a wide range of careers open to law graduates.
Current innovations include a professional skills and placements module. The module focuses on the attributes and skills the profession requires. As an integral part of it we encourage and assist our students to obtain relevant work placements and volunteering opportunities
where law students can work alongside staff and professional volunteers giving basic legal advice and the introduction of Criminal Litigation and Civil Litigation options on the LLB, entitling law students who take them to join the Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX) as Members under the ILEX graduate fast track scheme.
Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX)
The Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX) is the professional body representing over 20,000 trainee and practicing Legal Executives and is recognised by the Ministry of Justice as one of the three core routes to becoming a qualified lawyer.
We are very proud of the links we have with professionals practising in the local community. They have a direct positive impact on our student experience and teaching quality. We host a number of CPD lectures, inviting guest speakers and practitioners to speak on current law issues. These events are great for student networking.
