About University of Greenwich

The University of Greenwich is based in London and Medway. You can reach the campuses by car or via public transport (including bus and rail), with easy connections from airports in London. The largest of our three campuses, Greenwich Campus sits on a World Heritage Site on the banks of the River Thames. There aren’t many universities that can boast a world heritage site, but this one can. The main campus is on the banks of the Thames in three baroque buildings designed by Sir Christopher Wren at the end of the 17th century. Other sites are Avery Hill, in an 86-acre park in Eltham, south-east London, and Medway, another charming campus full of Edwardian redbrick and ivy, near Chatham’s historic dockyard. As a result, the 28,000 students are spread between city and more rural locations.

Greenwich is ranked fifth in the most recent People and Planet Green League table, which assesses the environmental and ethical performance of 142 universities in the UK. Furthermore, in the latest national student survey, Greenwich Law is ranked 1st in the UK for overall student satisfaction and Greenwich maintains its overall student satisfaction score of 84%. The university also tops the latest NHS London performance ratings for universities and colleges for adult nursing.

The University of Greenwich offers major libraries, computing facilities, student union facilities, catering facilities and cafe bars at all campuses. Furthermore, a new School of Architecture, Design and Construction is being built in Greenwich town centre and will house a contemporary library, two lecture theatres, two TV studios, a sound studio, editing rooms and various other academic facilities.

The University of Greenwich was honoured to be an official host venue for the London 2012 Games. The university’s Students’ Union building was part of the Greenwich Park venue for the Games, providing management facilities for competitions in equestrian sports, along with running and shooting in the modern pentathlon. Students were encouraged to take part in the many initiatives offered by the university. Two such projects — student volunteering and training in language and cultural awareness — won an “Inspire” mark from LOCOG, recognising them as “accessible, participative, inspiring and stimulating” initiatives inspired by London 2012.
